We know, but I want to digitize the sonograms to put up at the same time!

Emergency Room
It’s always good to start a story about the emergency room with the result first: Rhya is fine, the baby is great, and everything is hunky-dory.
Ok, but that wasn’t the case on Tuesday night. Rhya had been feeling chest pains and shortness of breath throughout the day, but she figured it would work itself out. However, by around 2am, it got so bad that she couldn’t sleep and her left arm started feeling numb. She called the doctors, and Dr. Ma (the oncall doctor) told her to not mess around with chest pains, and that she should go to the emergency room.
After doing some tests, the doctor on call diagnosed her with esophagitis, which basically means that she was having heartburn so bad that it burned her esophagus.
There is a lot more to the story, but thanks to Tammy for everything: making sure that the prescription was safe (by the way, the linked article shows the “B” classification), rearranging your work schedule to stay with Rhya, and for helping us and guiding us through such a hard situation.
Beat the Heat
We spent the weekend in Rockford, intending to spend some serious time with the family out by the family pool. The plan was to go up on Friday night, and hopefully beat the heat on Saturday and Sunday by lying in the Bloom family pool with Rhya’s family.
Unfortunately, it only partially worked out that way, as the heat didn’t show up on Saturday. Instead, the rain came. So, we used that opportunity to travel into Aurora and check out the selection at Babies R Us (we don’t have one in P-town). We checked out some cribs and strollers and baby stuff. It was a nice little day. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to make it to Home Depot.
Seriously, though, we got it pretty well narrowed down to which crib we’re going to get.
Then, on Sunday, it got up to 105 degrees, which was some really nice swimming weather. We hung out most of the day, and it was nice to have a relaxing weekend up in Rockford.

Just the facts
Have you ever wondered how many people read this site? Maybe what nations these people are in?
I doubt any of you lie awake in suspense, but I’ve always loved the stats that I get from webalizer. I had it on the computer in California, but I just now got it working here (just now meaning November 2004, when this post was started).
Anyway, there is still some interesting things you can check out…
Josh, if you see potential to abuse the site from this info…could you let me know? I’ll take it down, but I’d like to leave it if I could.
Tornado Drill
As I was writing my barrage of birthday posts, I had to go into a shelter in my work building because a tornado touched down about 5-10 miles away. Ah, miss midwest, how I’ve missed thee.

Looks like they predicted it right for once.
Happy Birthday Sonja!
It’s Grandma-Birthday-Heaven! It was really nice that we got to go out to breakfast with Sonja, Hank, and Dan on Sunday while we were up in Rockford.
Hope you are having a great birthday!!
Happy Birthday Betty!
As you can see, it is belated birthday day on mattandrhya.com. Rhya’s grandma Betty had a birthday last Wednesday, and, unfortunately, we didn’t get to celebrate with her this time.
Betty, I hope you had a day full of Bingo, casinos, and better offers! (Unless you want to stay home and make your favorite grandson-in-law peanut brittle!)
Happy Birthday B-Real!
I don’t think Brian reads this site, but I wanted to make sure to send out a belated birthday wish to B-Real anyway. Hope you had a good one (it was the 19th), and I hope everything is going well with the new house!
Rawlins and his wonderful wife Laura are building a house in New Lennox, which is a suburb of Chi-town.
Here’s a picture of Rawls and I, right before a trip to a homeless shelter to give soup to kids:

Happy Birthday a week and a day ago
Happy birthday, Chip! Again with the belatedness, but last week wasn’t very conducive to posting. We went over to Chip’s house last Sunday for his birthday, and it was really nice seeing everyone.
Here is to a great year of Farmington sports, finished basements, and college football!
The Davis Bunch
Congratulations Adam and Rachel Davis! This post is really late in coming, but we went to a wedding on the 16th for our good friend Adam and his new bride. Adam is one of those genuine nice guys, and we’re really happy for him, Rachel, and his two new daughters!
