Home just in time

Filed under: Football, NCAA, Penn State, Sports — mattandrhya @ 6:39 am

I got home just in time to enjoy Penn St. become Big Ten Champions! This means that they will represent the Big Ten in a BCS game (not the Rose Bowl this year since it is the BCS title game).

With that win and Miami’s loss to Georgia Tech, the Nittany Lions jumped to No. 4 in the AP poll.

This trip to the BCS game will the first for PSU. Congratulations, JoePa!

Matt putting the crib together

The night before I left for Germany the second time, Rhya and I put together Lindy’s crib and changing table. They both turned out really nice. You can tell that we are both ready for the new member of our family to join us!

Trick or Treat

Filed under: Halloween, Wilson House — mattandrhya @ 12:28 pm

Never enough. We never have enough candy. This year, we thought we’d be slick, as Rhya and I both have a compunction for giving too many pieces of candy to each kid. So, to alleviate that problem, we went to Sam’s club and bought 2 economy boxes of full-size candy bars (65 in total). With full-size bars, we were both confident that we could feel good giving each kid only 1 item.

And we did, and it worked…for 30 minutes. Halloween is expensive when you live in a big neighborhood.

Trip to France

Sorry, everyone. I was definitely really late posting this one. On my second weekend in Germany, I made the trip to southern France (how do you like that, Rhya…they can shove “The South of France”). Anyway, it was absolutely beautiful, even if it was overcast and rainy for the whole trip. As I’ve been trying to do the whole time, I ordered strictly off of the “Specials” part of the menu, and tried to get with the culture. My prognosis: they can keep the Rieslings (I’m not a white wine guy very much); I’ll take the escargot (snails); They can keep the goose liver pate; and I’ll take the Flammkuchen (kind of like a pizza).

The people were pretty nice, though I’d say the Germans are nicer on the whole. The little bed and breakfast was tucked in the hills, and I would definitely take Rhya there. I went with two “wine snobs” (but very nice ones), and I acted as the “finisher”, so I drank a lot of white wine. I’m done with it for a while :) (except for the bottle I brought home)

You can see the set of pictures here (I’ll try to add captions later).

Quick Ode to Beer

Filed under: Beer, Quotes — mattandrhya @ 11:34 am

As I’m only home for a week, and have other things on my mind rather than posting, here is a tidbit. Since this is a week home in between trips to German, I thought some quotes about beer would be appropriate:
