House Update – We’ve got basement walls!

Filed under: Building, Home, Pictures — mildog @ 6:05 pm

The foundation was poured last Thursday or Friday, so we’ve now got some walls to go with our hole.  So, the next step is that Charlie is going to fire up his Bobcat and backfill the dirt around the foundation.  Then, around Monday or so, they’ll start bringing in the lumber.

You’re looking at the view of our entry way, with the garage in the lower right and the far left corner is the kitchen.  It’s starting to look like a floorplan!

House Update – Foundation is about to be poured

Filed under: Building, Home — mildog @ 6:57 pm

I apologize that I don’t have a picture of the foundation forms, but it’s been dark when I’ve been leaving work lately.  I should have some updated pictures on Saturday.  In the meantime, I understand that the forms for the foundation are going up today and being poured today and tomorrow.  Then, the foundation needs to cure for a few days again, and then be backfilled – which means that they fill in the dirt around the foundation.  So, if the weather stays on our side, Charlie should be able to start framing within a couple weeks!

We own a hole!

Filed under: Uncategorized — mildog @ 4:46 pm

I think we’ve now reached the point of no return. In addition to dirt, we now own a hole, some concrete, and a bunch of dirt and gravel.

But seriously, the house is starting to move into high gear now. We’ve made a final decision on windows (hint: they don’t look like the plans), a front door, the interior doors, and what type of cabinets we’re getting. We’re really close on siding, brick, and roofing; and we’re working on the stair parts.

As far as the picture on the left. They’ve poored the footers, and now we’re waiting for the concrete to cure (6-7 days), and then they’ll backfill it and continue to build the foundation. Exciting!

Our Baby is growing up!  Lindy celebrated her first birthday (Dec 28th) with a family party on the the 30th at our house.  Lindy enjoyed seeing everyone and playing with her new toys.  She liked the cake when there was a candle in it, but wasn’t really excited about touching it or eating it.  It’s amazing to look at all of the pictures we took of her this year (about 1600 – I’m trying to create a set of all of them on Flickr – I did it in Picasa for her birthday party slideshow).

Lindy’s First Christmas

Filed under: Christmas, Family Updates, Lindy, Pictures — mildog @ 3:42 pm

We had a very eventful Christmas this year! Lindy had an absolutely amazing time, getting to see tons of family throughout the vacation.  The Hofers were in town from KC, and she even got to see Punky and Judy (her Great-Aunts from Pensacola and Atlanta).  Lindy was enthralled with the boxes and wrapping paper, and she was pretty impressed with the presents, too!  Unfortunately, Rhya and I had to battle the stomach flu through the 24th and 25th, but we had a great vacation nonetheless.

Laundry Day

Filed under: Uncategorized — mildog @ 3:09 pm

To say I’ve been slacking with the posts would be a severe understatement. I’ve missed a lot of occasions that deserve more than a mere mention on the site, and I’ll do my best to document them all. This is actually one of the latest pictures that I wanted to put on the web page, but I’m blogging it first so it won’t stay at the top.

Rhya had to do Lindy’s laundry the other day, and she was a bit behind due to the holidays, travel, Lindy’s birthday, etc. so she put one of her undershirts (yes, that is a scrunchy on the back to make it tighter) and Lindy’s Cubs socks and let her play while she caught up on the laundry.
